I really cannot take it anymore… since I write blogs, I want to let all those who read my blog now…:D (I am wondering who reads my blog besides Sookie, Andrew and maybe 38 Karen Francisca)
POINT 1- 50 years of Independence?
The government is busy promoting Malaysia (Visit Malaysia year 2007) in accordance with our so called 50 years of Independence. This issue did not bother me at all for the past 28 years. I think I was too lazy to count but this year, 50 years, easier to do the subtraction or addition so I was confused for the first time…
Before this, I do remember that we were reminded of year 1957 on Aug 31st but this time when I actually counted it myself…and recalled what I studied in school… anyone know what I am trying to say here? Never mind… I am gonna say it anyway and I doubt people remember such insignificant FACT…
Aug 1957, Tunku Abdul Rahman, stood at Dataran Merdeka, shouting Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! Declaring Independence in MALAYA. yes, It was Malaya, NOT Malaysia. When did the name Malaysia came about then?? It was clearly stated in both the websites below and in our secondary school text book that MALAYSIA is formed in 1963 when Singapore, Sabah and Sarawak joined Malaya. Sadly, Singapore was "expelled" in 1965 but, we, remain as Malaysia ever since.

So, if we really call ourselves educated, 2007-1963 should come up with 44 as the answer. I am not sure why 50. I don’t mind at all if Peninsula Malaysia want to celebrate its 50th year of Independence but please DO NOT USE MALAYSIA in your celebration because there are MORE in MALAYSIA. Do not forget us, Sabah and Sarawak. We are also part of Malaysia and we did not get indenpendence until 1963. What makes the Federal Government forgot about us?
It is just so hard to accept the fact that the government forgot about us…How can that happen? Even though just 2 states, we are so much bigger than all the other states in peninsula and we contributed so much to the economic of the country! WHAT ARE WE? As an East Malaysian, I really feel hurt. Hurt that my existence is not ACKNOWLEDGED by the government. (dah la we are the minority). How can I develop the patriotism in me?? How can I LOVE my country when my country does not acknowledge my existence?
One thing that surprises me is, there were no complains at all from the leaders of these 2 forgotten states… what is the problem with people?? Too proud to admit that they cannot count?? For the sake of UNITY, AMEND it DAMN IT! It might be small matter for some people but the fact is the fact!At least explain to the people why 50…there are a lot of people who can count in the country…maybe some just don’t care… Any government would LOVE unity in the country. Why would anyone put the unity at risk for such a small matter?? what is it behind the "50"?
Fact 2- Who are Malaysians?
From both the links above, we can roughly know who Malaysians are or at least, they are enough for my point. This issue is addressed for those who are very very really weak in their general knowledge about Malaysia. When I think about it, maybe this is also the reason why no one say a word about the previous issue, because they did not realise that Sabah and Sarawak are PART of MALAYSIA too!
I have encountered this numerous times but yesterday, a lady (in her 40s), talked to me and I told her I am going to Sabah soon for good. She said," Oh, you don’t want to stay in Malaysia anymore ka?" I was so ^%#*@$&# but I know it is useless to explain… or maybe next time I should try explain. Have they ever realise that Sabah and Sarawak is of Malaysia too?
God! Are we considered ALIENS (as Americans put it) all this while?? We are just from much BIGGER state compare to all those in peninsula and further from the rest… but we are still of the same country dear all countrymen…:(
Couldn’t help feeling like an outcast, a forgotten….the left outs… Did we really had our independence? Does anyone know about us? One of the nastiest feeling is to exist in people’s non-existing world.
Unity…That is what all the leaders hope for their country…Think about it you leaders out there… Just think about it…
