Eloi, Eloi, Lama Sabachthani? (Matthew 27:46)
He was a carpenter, a carpenter’s son, son of Joseph (John6:42), a Jew (John4:20), a Nazarene, a good man (John7:12) a teacher (John8:4), a master, a Rabbi (John1:49), a prophet (John4:19), a decedent of King David, King of Israel (John1:49).
He is now known as the Lamb of God (John 1:29), the Holy One of God (John6:69), the Lord (John11:27), the vine (John15:5), the Bread of Life (John6:35), the healer (John5), the bridegroom (John3:29), the Messiah (John1:41), the Saviour (John4:42), the gate (John10:9), The Word of God (John 1:14), the Good Shepherd (John10:11), the resurrection (John11:25), the Way, the Light and the Truth, the Son of God (John 1:49), Son of Man (John 5:27), the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords
I.N.R.I. was the accusation… "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews" (John19:19), written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek (John 19:20)… It was indeed a Good Friday…He was crucified in between two sinners at Golgotha (in Aramaic, meaning, place of the Skull) but what sin did he committed? Even on his last hours he was tested… "Aren’t you the Christ? Save yourself and us!" (Luke 23:39).
Nails were driven into the flesh…innocent blood flowed …yet he said…"Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing." (Luke23:34) A loyal son who once so scared that he asked the Father to take away his final task on earth, the reason he was sent here… But, all these were asked to be done according to the Father’s will but not his own will. He knew why he was put into the situation. He knew where he was led to.
Eloi,eloi, lama sabachthani! [My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"(Matthew27:46] That was what he said while hanging on the cross … but his last words were "Father, into thy hands I command my spirit…" still, he submitted himself to the Father’s will despite his weakness.
